CNA training a facility may not charge you for (42 CFR 483.152) Free
Not a course — a federal rule that makes a course free. Verbatim: "No nurse aide who is employed by, or who has received an offer of employment from, a facility on the date on which the aide begins a nurse aide training and competency evaluation program may be charged for any portion of the program" — tuition, textbooks or materials. And if you pay for training yourself and are then hired as a nurse aide within 12 months, "the State must provide for the reimbursement of costs incurred in completing the program on a pro rata basis during the period in which the individual is employed as a nurse aide." The common misunderstanding: people think free CNA training is a favour a nursing home does for them. It is a legal obligation once they have offered you a job, and the pro-rata reimbursement after the fact is a right most candidates never claim.
