Professional continuing-education units (CEUs) under the ANSI/IACET Standard — the recognized way to keep a license or certification current. (MELEK's own IACET path lives here.)
FEMA / National Disaster and Emergency Management University (formerly the Emergency Management Institute)
COST: Free (federal programme; FEMA publishes no price on the IS pages — the $0 is unstated at source, VERIFY before printing it). A large self-paced online catalog — for example IS-100.c, Introduction to the Incident Command System, carries 0.2 CEUs — open to "the professional and volunteer emergency management community, and the general public," with downloadable completion certificates. A FEMA Student Identification Number (SID) has been required since 1 April 2015. The common misunderstanding, and FEMA states it outright: transcripts issued by the Independent Study Program "do NOT reflect college credits." These are IACET CEUs, which other bodies may accept toward licence renewal at their discretion — that is not the same thing as college credit.

FEMA states that CDP training "is federally funded at no cost to state, local, tribal and territorial emergency response professionals or their agencies." The common misunderstanding: "no cost" here is scoped to responders and their agencies — it is not a public continuing-education catalog you can self-enrol in from outside a response role.

National Child Traumatic Stress Network (SAMHSA-funded; UCLA and Duke University)
The NCTSN Learning Center states it "Offers FREE continuing education (CE) credits and e-learning resources" in childhood trauma, of which Psychological First Aid Online is the best-known course. The common misunderstanding: free CE is assumed to be low-grade. This is federally funded, university-coordinated material — the reason it is free is SAMHSA, not quality.
