The common misunderstanding: people expect it to be a degree-equivalent. It is a badge library — useful as evidence of specific skills and as free structured study, not as a substitute for a qualification. Artificial Intelligence is one of the twelve industries DOL lists for Registered Apprenticeship, alongside technology and advanced manufacturing — meaning there are employers being paid attention to by DOL who will hire and train you into AI work on a wage. Scenario-based credentials earned by completing tasks in an interactive, lab-based assessment rather than by sitting a multiple-choice exam, covering AI, cloud, data and now business scenarios; Microsoft says they validate one specific skill set where a Certification validates four to six. Microsoft also confirms certifications "renew...annually at no cost." The common misunderstanding: Applied Skills is not a Microsoft Certification and does not replace one — Microsoft says so explicitly.
